I want to prevent HIV or STIs . What options do I have?
External condoms (also called male condoms) and internal condoms (also called female condoms) are effective when used correctly.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis): Medication taken by people without HIV to significantly reduce their risk of acquiring it. It is available as daily pills or long-acting injections.
PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis): An emergency treatment that must be started as soon as possible, within 72 hours of a possible exposure to HIV.
Imagine this: Two people want to protect their sexual health, but they may not need the same tools. Prevention is not the same for everyone. A conversation with your healthcare provider can help you find the best option for you.
